Individual Counseling

Individual Counseling services are offered to adults 21 years old and up. We use Cognitive Behavioral Strategies, Discernment Counseling, Attachment-based EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), Mindfulness, and the Gottman Method as therapy approaches. We draw from our experience and training to assist you in identifying areas of need and ways to meet your treatment goals.

As with any of our clients, we work collaboratively with you. We assist clients in learning to understand what may be impacting you, becoming a roadblock in your ability to feel whole and healthy and maintain sustainable relationships with themselves and others. Your ability to have healthy, safe, connected, and happy connections with others depends on the quality of your relationship with yourself.

As an individual client, the process will always start with a thorough assessment where we will identify your strengths and needs to create your treatment goals. The evaluation may   last up to four sessions. As therapists, we may use additional assessment tools/questionnaires to give us a better view of what we are working on. After your treatment goals are set, we will continue your treatment following the goals and reassessing frequently to ensure we can determine your progress and additional needs if any arise.

One question clients ask often is, how long will this take? It is difficult to put a number on it, given everyone is different, even if most have similar needs. We frequently reassess to determine where we are, what is ahead of us, and possible discharge dates. We will also adjust as needed. Most important, we have invested a significant amount of time and resources in becoming competent in the areas we provide treatment to clients, for example, by becoming trained in Discernment Counseling and/or Certified in EMDR therapy.

As a therapists we also practice clear, frequent communication with clients to assist you in taking ownership of your process. When you meet your goals as we get closer, we will discuss your progress, assess for any unmet needs and set a time for a termination session. You will have pre- and post-discharge appointments scheduled according to your needs.
